Another view of the fire scene, showing the tremendous increase in smoke over the US Air Force Academy. If this wasn't a forest fire causing those huge smoke drifts there.... Well, let's just say I'd be a lot more worried.
When smoke obscures my position, as here, that means the wind is coming from the West, which is the normal direction. That is in the direction of Colorado Springs, pushing the fire this way and towards the built-up areas of Rockrimmon and Garden of the Gods. There are reports of drivers there violating traffic laws to get out fast.
